We are closely following the epidemiology of the SARS-CoV-2 variants in order to update our reference database, the SARS-CoV-2 Variant Typing Dataset (in our Coronavirus App).
In addition to performing regular updates to our SARS-CoV-2 reference dataset, the IDNS Coronavirus References, we also update our Typing dataset to include a representative of each circulating variant of interest. The SARS-CoV-2 Variant Typing Dataset is available in our IDNS3 Coronavirus App, and it can be used for typing, searches, and alignment purposes.
The newly described SARS-CoV-2 variant XBB.1.5 can now be found in SmartGene's SARS-CoV-2 Variant Typing Dataset. Based on GISAID's analysis, we have also added new reference sequences to our dataset to cover those not previously represented, including XBB.1.5. Emerging variant analysis is monitored and published by GISAID.

At SmartGene, we are continuously updating our Apps to make sure new variants are represented as soon as possible, so they can be used for typing purposes. This update will help to ensure that the best possible representation of the circulating strains are available within SmartGene. Nevertheless, please understand that the complete, S-gene sequences (or preferably whole genomes) are required for the most precise determination of a sublineage.
